Tutorial

Prepare

Install the Smar Start Menu of PCNetworkClone First.(The .exe file you downloaded)
Once you have installed it, you will get the screen below:
PCNetworkClone_start

Click the "Burn CDs" button, you will get:
PCNetwrokClone Burn

Follow the instructions in the page and click "Burn a Server CD" and "Burn a Client CD" to create PCNetworkClone CDs.

Finally, You get PCNetworkClone CDs.

Please insert a PCNetworkClone CD(You may also purchase a burned CD from our website) and set the BIOS to boot the CD/DVD ROM first.

A. Prepare a local network for the clone

PC Network Clone can only be used in a single Network, which means Clone can not be processed via Internet. First of all,
make sure network cables are conductible. You can connect both sides onto the same switcher or router. Flashing on two
sides of the cable means conductible. Otherwise, you’d better change anther one. If you want to connect two PCs directly,
you should use crossover network line/cable.

B. Startup the Source Computer with PC Network Clone Server CD

a. Burn both Server ISO and Client ISO purchased from our website.
Please see User Guide on how to burn a ISO onto CD.

b. Insert the server CD in source computer and reboot it.
Following screenshot is the first page you will see:

In this stage, all the network services (DHCP, FTP, PXE boot) are all available. You do not have to configure them at all.

c. Select source partition/disk
In this screen, you can select the partition/disk you want to clone.

Some parameters will help you to identify the partitions/disks.

  • Bootable: Described only by partitions. It characterized itself to be a bootable partition, which means Operating Systems like Windows and Linux possibly reside in this partition

  • Type: Type of a hard drive, identifies if a partition is internal or external one. Internal disks are marked as “Fixed”. External disks, such as USB or Firewire disks, are marked as “Removable”.

  • Device: Identifies if it’s a whole disk or only a partition of a disk.

  • Description: Displays device information. Serial number will be displayed if it is a hard disk, otherwise, name of the file system will be displayed. Users can distinguish the familiar strings like “FAT32” or “NTFS” from this column.

  • Start:The start sector in the whole disk of each partition. Users can find the physically deployed order of all partitions on each hard drive. Normally, its order corresponds to the drive letter in Windows System.

  • Size:  The capacity of a hard disk or partition.

d. Select suitable parameter for your network clone
There are two options in this page :

  • Full duplex mode:
If you are using switcher/router rather than HUB, please choose this option. It will increase the clone speed.

  • Make your destination Partition bootable:
Check this to make your destination Partition bootable.

e. Listen to the network and accept the connections from the target PCs.

Server will listen to your local network and wait for the clients. If no client is accepted, the clone process can not be started.

C. Start up target (client) computers

There are two ways to start up target (client) computers:
. Boot from network through the PXE boot protocol.
Setting up target (client) computer to boot from PXE:
For bare metal, it is enough that the machine’s BIOS supports network booting. On a machine that has an operating system on the hard disk, the BIOS must be configured so that the network interface card is either the first boot device, or at least prior the Hard Drive device. The example below shows one of reasonable BIOS configurations. If you don’t insert bootable media, the computer will boot from the network.

In some BIOS versions, you have to save changes to BIOS after enabling the network interface card so that the card appears in the list of boot devices.

If the hardware has multiple network interface cards, make sure that the card supported by the BIOS has the network cable plugged in.

If the target is successfully boot from network, you will see the screen below:

. Boot from CD(PC Network Clone Client component)

Insert the Client CD into CDROM of target PC and set the BIOS to boot from it

a. Configure the client component to connect to the server.
After the booting process on target PC, you will see the following:

Client has the same partition/disk selection window, please select a suitable one:

The next window indicates that the client is searching for server:

If the client has found the server, it will display some information as below:

  • IP of Local machine:
The IP address of the client in the subnet. This is helpful for you to identify one machine among the target PCs.
  • Listening to multicast:
What multicast address the client is listening.

In the meanwhile, the server will add the IP address of the new client to its client list:

D. Begin to clone

Once you decide to start the clone process, please click “Next” in “Listening to Clients” page of Server.
